Change is difficult, but it can also be exciting. Whether you are considering dealing with problems you have lived with for years, or facing a crisis in your life as a result of an unexpected event, you have it within you to face this challenge and emerge stronger for it.I stress the importance of a strong, caring, give-and-take relationship with my clients, and pride myself on being able to identify on some level with every person I work with. My approach depends on each person's particular needs and goals. For those dealing with broad concerns such as life transitions, existential or identity issues, or interpersonal relationships, my approach tends to be exploratory and insight-oriented. For those seeking resolution of a specific problem or set of symptoms (such as OCD, substance abuse, or stress), I take a fairly structured, goal- and skills-oriented approach to treatment. My style is always active, candid, and collaborative.
I have advanced training in the treatment of alcohol and drug use problems, anxiety disorders (including obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety, and generalized anxiety and worry), and depression. I work with a wide range of individuals from all walks of life, and I have a strong commitment to the GLBT community.
In addition to my private practice, I have extensive experience as a research psychologist in the fields of substance abuse and anxiety treatment, and HIV risk reduction. I believe this gives me a unique perspective on psychotherapy and helps me keep abreast of new, 'cutting edge' developments in the treatment field.
